NUSRAT JAHAN, a Commonwealth Chevening Scholar, Barrister & Solicitor (Ontario), Barrister (UK & Wales), and Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, has been practising law for over 27 years.
She holds an LL.M. in Public International Laws from the University College London (UCL) and an LL.M. in Human Rights and Humanitarian Laws from the University of Dhaka. She also holds a post graduate diploma in Laws from Brunel University, UK.
Nusrat gained vast experience in Constitutional, Administrative, and Judicial Review Petitions, Quasi Criminal Trials and Applications, Civil Revisions, and different Motions through her legal practice in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. She worked as an Assistant Attorney general for the government of Bangladesh.
Nusrat worked as a Programme Analyst at UNDP and managed Bangladesh’s ‘Access to Justice and Promoting Human Rights’ program. She has also worked for the World Health Organization (WHO) and played an essential role in implementing the core principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (UNFCTC) within the Bangladesh National Tobacco Control Laws and regulations.
She serves on the Board of Progressive Action for Community Empowerment (PACE), a non-profit in Toronto, Ontario. Nusrat facilitated many community legal workshops in Toronto jointly with the Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, PACE, and other Institutions.
Nusrat is proficient in English, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, and American Sign Language. She is a member of Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL).
